More About us

The Pineville High Theatre Department continues to achieve national prominence as one of the top theatre programs in the country.  Our programs  (concentrations in Theatre, Musical Theatre, Design/Technology and Dance) provide rigorous training designed to allow students to explore the demands of an artistic career.  Students are prepared for entry into college/university programs, professional schools, conservatory settings and in some instances, professional career entry. The Theatre Department fosters creativity and originality in all of our productions and offers a unique learning environment allowing students to receive intensive training beyond the normal High School experience. Throughout the school day into after school rehearsals the students learn that working together is always better, and fun! We strive to push the limits and assumptions of what some think of when thinking of high school theatre. We use state of the art sound, lighting as well as live music to support our shows and gives us the tools necessary to make professional level productions from large scale musicals to traditional theatre plays come to life on our stage.

Alumni can be found in every corner of the nation continuing their theatre training in universities, conservatories, regional and professional level theatres doing what they love. In addition, students in the department have the opportunity to work with theatre professionals in all areas of theatrical arts during their time at the school.

Theatrical performances at the school are regularly voted by Cenla Focus’ Best of Cenla Readers Choice Awards as the best theatrical production of the year in the Central Louisiana area.  Our productions continue to attract audiences from far reaching areas, as well as our local area. Be sure to come out to one of our productions this season!

The Pineville High Theatre Educational Outreach Program reaches to the area’s pre-school, elementary, middle school and high school students has been recognized by the Rapides Parish School Board and the Arts Council of Central Louisiana as serving a crucial role in the nurturing and development of arts awareness for area school children from K-12.  This program, designed to expose school children to theatrical arts through performances, workshops and in school teaching, has served over 50,000 children since its inception since 1992.

The Theatre Department at Pineville High has a unique and significant place in the Central Louisiana area and contributes in a very visible way to the quality of life of both the region and the state.

Also, notably, PHS Theatre has participated in the drama portion of Louisiana High School Rally Association’s District Literary Rally at Northwestern State University twice, receiving Superior Ratings and qualifying for State Rally at LSU in 2020 and 2022. The 2020 State Rally was canceled due to the pandemic, but in 2022 PHS Theatre went on to achieve a 100% Superior rating at State.

VISION AND MISSION STATEMENTS

In 1996, the Rapides Parish School Board designated Pineville High School as the Magnet Arts Center for the Rapides Parish School District.  Since that time, artistically gifted students from all corners of the district audition and attend the school to receive superior training in their chosen discipline. Message us for more information about how you can become part of our family at Pineville High!
